Thanksgiving 2006

Well, pat Norm on the back! It was a success. They all arrived at Norm's pad around 1:30 and dinner was on by 2:30. A cancellation by an uncle and aunt actually made the seating feasible. Norm's mom came over the day before and helped clean. (Thanks mom!!) She also brought over the pictured turkey bag, which cuts down on cooking time and keeps all the natural juices in!! The bird was a 23 pounder, which left a small amount of leftovers. Norm was happy there was no fighting, yelling or bad behavior to report.

And Norm's brother pulled off his son's sweater at dinner to reveal a shirt that read, "I am going to be a big brother" which put everyone in a good mood. It took a few of the family members a minute or two to realize what it meant.

Congrats on the bird and the new uncle status!

BTW, those turkey bags are awesome. They totally keep the juice and flavor in. I'm pro-bag.

Glad to hear your Turkey Day went swell. And it took me a couple seconds to figure out the shirt too. My first thought was, "he's going to be on CBS?"

My mom always uses the turkey bag. And the turkey is always scrumptious.

Congrats on new uncle-dom and hosting a house full of family with no yelling, bloodshed or police.

I love to use those roasting bags, but never thought of them for a turkey! Here's a tip I learned from Martha Stewart. Try it one year and your gobbler will come out picture perfect:

Take cheesecloth (sold in your bakery section) and soak it in white wine and melted butter. Place it over the entire turkey, including legs and wings. Every 30 minutes baste the cheesecloth with the white wine and melted butter concoction. Carefully peel off the cheesecloth 30 minutes before cooking time ends. You will have the most delicious, moist and beautifully brown turkey. You can also do it with the roasting pan lid on.

Congratulations on the new addition to the family. Please keep us updated!
