Norm's World #27
Well, one of the results of Norm's water system being replaced was the availibilty of the old pressure tank. (Behold it in it's rusted beauty.) And being the surly cheapster he is, Norm devised an inexpensive seasonal water heating system. (Put the old tank in the greenhouse.) So Norm now has this tank connnected to his washer, and will be running hot water loads courtesy of the sun. (A major star in Norm's book.)
Norm hasn't been able to actually test the hook-up, due to the rain and cool weather. But when the sun is out, that corner easily heats to 100 degrees, if not more. Norm will report the results.

Nice way to conserve both money and the planet! Way to go, Norm!
Very smart idea! If it saves energy and cash, it's a great system in my books.
Let us know how it works out.
What a great idea, Norm. Major props.
Thanks guys!! Norm has used it once with limited success. The metal pressure tank seems to collect heat slower than Norm expected. But the water sitting in the plastic hose gets very hot.
Norm's going to switch out the tank for a plastic barrel.
I didn't understand the mechanics of your system because I was captured by the word "greenhouse" and couldn't help wondering what Norm grows there?
Which reminded me of a local news story where an old lady lost control of her car and drove into the side of a house, crashing the window and exposing a grow-op. Only in BC.
Sorry, my mind wonders....
Very clever and smart idea Norman! You're my new hero!
Hopefully the plastic barrel does the trick. Mucho props!
Ffleur, the greenhouse Norm has is empty and used to dry clothes. It was added by the previous owners. Gardening was their hobby. (Home improvement was not.)
Ahhh, thanks V. (Norm is very cheap.)
Ffleur: Of course it would only happen in BC. Word on the street is that BC is full of left-wing, tree hugging, granola eating, pot-heads. hahah... do you hear that often?
Hi Mish: yes, like California, we are the land of fruit and nuts. And pot heads and filthy rich people. Why can't I met them?
There was a small used bookshop across from my bus stop that I observed for quite a few months a few years ago. Everyone leaving the place really stank of weed.
I couldn't help noticing the people exiting the place were never carrying books nor indeed, looked like they even read books.
Sure enough, the cops busted the place. The owner was trying to establish a legal precedent or some such thing, by selling the drug on his premises. He is still in business, books that is, but with substantially less traffic.
