Norm's World #28

This little fellow has been hangin' around Norm's yard a little more than normal. Usually cardinals are a fleeting visitor. They're not like robins which hunt all day in full view. Norm saw this one's lover, as he did the funky chicken for her. He hopped towards her, reversing his position with each hop. It was a rare mating ritual moment. Norm thinks they've built a pad nearby and are raising a family.

He did the funky chicken for her? He's a keeper. Trust.

When I was in college, I used to provide commentary at parties as follows... "check out that guy bobbing and weaving for the blonde chick." I might add "dancing the funky chicken" to my lexicon. Gold.

That said, we NEVER see cardinals in SoCal, but I remember them from my childhood in suburban Chicago.

Great photograph! Yeah, I don't think I've seen many cardinals around my neck of the woods (suburban Bay Area). Though I have seen a blue jay or two and their counterpart with the white/greyish trim.

I think. It's probably a mourning dove and I just can't tell the difference.
